Penmanship awards were presented today in the Junior and Senior Yard by Mrs O Shea to boys who have excelled in writing during the year. Mrs O Connor, former Deputy Principal was on hand to present her own award to two lucky recipents.
In the midst of a very busy Active Schools Week, we held our Sport for All Day in the DLS College field which was really well supported by parents this year.
This night is the highlight of the year for boys in 4th Class. Two great plays, one each from Mr Carrol's Class and Ms McKeon's Class were performed tonight under the direction of Liam Meagher much to the delight of all the parents who filled the Hall.
Our final school fundraiser of the year took place today and classes could be seen heading out on their walks from early morning. On their return everyone was treated to an ice cream from Mr Softee!
Once again this year during the season of Lent, Mr Grant organised a special weekly collection in support of the charity Bóthar who wanted to send as many goats to Africa as possible. We raised enough money to send two goats and two lucky boys got to name them before they flew out to their new homes!
We celebrated Déise Day today in support of the Waterford Senior Hurling Team's appearance in the National Hurling League Final against Limerick.
Following our annual "No Uniform" Charity Day in aid of the children's charity Barnardos in February, Una Conroy returned to St Declans for the official cheque presentation of all the money raised.
Once again this year, with the support of the Parents Association we teamed up with the local charity "Helping Hand" to assist those who are homeless in Waterford. This was simply a collection each week by different classes of basic living essentials. These items were then distributed by the charity at a later stage. The response was amazing so many thanks to everyone for supporting this very worthy cause. Pictured below is just a sample of some of the items collected.
The whole school gathered in the hall today to wish Mr Fitzgerald long life, health, and happiness as he retires from teaching after a long and successful career in St Declans. His contribution to the school over the years has been immense and he will certainly be missed by all his colleagues and friends. The entire DLS community wish him the very best for the future.
Congratulations and thanks to the Parents Association who organised a very succcessful Book Fair in the school during the 3rd week of November. Many thanks also to all those parents who visited the Book Fair and supported this very worthwhile initiative. Once again this year there was lots of fun and games in the hall as the whole school gather together with their fingers crossed hoping that they would be the winner of the top prize. there could only be one winner so congratulations to Noah in our Preschool who went home very happy with his new bike!
Today the Mayor of the Metropolitan Area of Waterford, Cllr. Joe Kelly visited the school to present Attendance Certificates to the 40 boys who did not miss any day in school last year.
